How it works

  1. Step 1

    Pick your phobia

From a curated list of nine phobias including emetophobia (vomiting), trypophobia (clustered holes), and arachnophobia (spiders).

  2. Step 2

    Add what to scan

A YouTube link, a video file, an image, or scan ahead on the page you’re browsing — whichever is easiest.

  3. Step 3

    Get a trigger map

Red/green timecoded segments show where possible triggers appear. Click any segment to read the description.

How scans are billed

Each scan is billed at the actual AI cost to process your content — not a fixed per-minute price. You see an estimate, and a maximum, before every scan.

A 2-hour movie runs about 588 credits on the default Standard quality (about 180 on Economy). A single image is about 1.53 credits. Scanning ahead on a page is about 11 credits per click (5 screenshots).

Top-ups

  • $55,000 credits (~17 hrs video)
  • $1010,500 credits (~36 hrs video, 5% bonus)
  • $2527,500 credits (~93 hrs video, 10% bonus)

Switch to Economy quality to stretch your credits about 3×. Exact cost is shown before each scan; you’re billed for the measured cost when it finishes.

Top-ups appear inside Nevala only when a scan would exceed your remaining credit. Credits never expire.

Payments processed by Paddle.com (Merchant of Record). Prices in USD; Paddle localizes for your region and handles VAT.

What Nevala is (and isn’t)

Nevala is an accommodation tool — like subtitles for deaf users or photosensitivity filters for people with epilepsy. It helps you make informed choices about media you consume.

It does not provide medical, psychological, or therapeutic advice. The clinical gold standard for treating phobias is CBT-based exposure therapy. Nevala is a quality-of-life tool, not a cure.

FAQ

How does pricing work?
A one-time $12 unlock includes 1,560 credits — about 5 hours of video on the default quality (around 18 on Economy). One credit pool spans video, images, and page scans. Scans aren’t a fixed per-minute price: each is billed at the actual AI cost to process your content, and you see an estimate before every scan. No subscription. Credits never expire.
Can I get a refund?
Yes. Every purchase — the $12 unlock and any top-up — is refundable on the credits you haven’t used. Scan nothing and you get a full refund within 110 days; once you start scanning, the unused portion of your base credits comes back pro-rata until those credits are used up. Bonus credits have no monetary value and aren’t refunded. Start a refund inside Nevala; Paddle, our Merchant of Record, processes it — see our Refund Policy. EU/UK residents keep their statutory withdrawal rights; because scanning is a service you ask us to perform right away, the withdrawal right is lost only for each individual scan once that scan completes — your unused credits stay refundable.
When does my unlock become non-refundable?
Only the base credits you actually spend become non-refundable. The unlock fee is returned pro-rata against the base credits you haven’t used — in full within 110 days if you never scan, and pro-rata after that until your base credits are used up. If our system fails to process your content (no scan actually runs), nothing is charged for it.
How do you decide what a scan costs?
Each scan is billed at the actual AI compute cost (Google Vertex AI) used to process your content, multiplied by 1.30. Cost varies with the content’s length and complexity and the quality tier you pick. We show you an estimate, and a maximum, before the scan runs.
Does Nevala charge different users different prices?
No. Per-scan cost depends only on the AI compute your content uses — the same rate for everyone. We do not personalise prices based on who you are, your location, your device, or any profile information.
How does scanning ahead on a page work?
When you click “screen ahead,” Nevala briefly scrolls the page forward behind a cover, screenshots what’s coming, scans it for what’s on your list, then scrolls back to where you were. Those screenshots stay in memory only and are never saved. A note: scanning ahead on banking, healthcare, or paywalled sites can occasionally trigger a lockout or use up a paywall’s free-article count — we warn you on sites we know about, but the list isn’t exhaustive. Lockouts caused by a site’s own anti-bot systems aren’t refundable.
Is this therapy?
No. Nevala is an accessibility tool; it does not diagnose, treat, or cure any condition. For treatment, consult a licensed mental health professional.
What happens to the media I upload?
It’s sent to our AI provider to scan, then deleted right after the scan completes (with a 24-hour auto-purge as a backstop). Page screenshots are never stored at all. Nothing you submit is used to train AI models. Credits for an image scan cover the AI scan plus the brief upload and storage during scanning — no separate fees. See our Privacy Policy.
Which phobias are supported?
At launch: emetophobia, trypophobia, arachnophobia, trypanophobia, ophidiophobia, hemophobia, coulrophobia, entomophobia, and cynophobia. More added based on user requests.
Can I use my own API key?
No. Nevala processes scans through our managed Gemini infrastructure so we can maintain rate limits, abuse prevention, and consistent quality. Bringing your own key is not supported.
Is my data sold?
No. See our Privacy Policy.
How accurate is the AI?
The AI has false positives and false negatives. Use Nevala as one input to your decision, not an oracle. You remain responsible for your media-consumption choices.
Can't afford $12?
Genuinely can’t afford $12 but Nevala would help you? Email hardship@nevala.app with 1–3 sentences about your situation. We’ll send a $2 unlock link with about 3 hours of scanning included (about one movie). No documentation, no judgment, no questions beyond the 1–3 sentences. After your starter credits are used, top-ups are standard pricing — we can’t subsidize ongoing use at solo-developer scale. One grant per email address.
